Have you ever been to Sedona? Upon driving in I always turn my radio down as if I've entered the church of majestic red mountains. It feels spiritual without feeling religious. This meditation circle outside, surrounded by trees and the red mountains couldn't have taken place in a more beautiful location.

I’m a natural light photographer. It doesn't always have to be the brightest room but light does always have to be coming from a window or door. There is a certain texture that you get from natural light that cannot be replicated with artificial lighting. This shot represents that special light.

This magical circular instrument is a wave drum. It has tiny beads in it and makes the most incredible soothing sound of ocean waves. This is by far one of the coolest instruments I've ever seen. @moniqueangelyca plays this right on top of her clients during the massage!

It's totally possible to shoot with the light behind your subject. People are always surprised at my iPhone photos with the sun behind us. This was not taken with my iPhone but the same theory applies. You just need a good lens for it! My iPhone 13 kills it with the backlight but my iPhone 11 couldn't handle it. Having a good lens, getting close to your subject and lightening the shadows a little in post is the secret recipe.

After she provides a Lomi Lomi massage she does a sound healing with several magical instruments. It was fun to experience the instruments as she played them and witness her incredible talent.

Don't forget the product shot. If you have a lovely little layout of your product, I will definitely be taking that. I believe this batch of cacao was sourced in Peru. Unlike everyday consumer hot chocolate, ceremonial grade cacao has more of an earthy taste that I find grounding and delightful.

Quiet moments are important moments too. Often in a cacao ceremony you are asked to smell the chocolate before consuming it and set and intention. This could be thought of as a procedural step but being an observer it is clear that this a moment of connection with the “medicine” and with self.

This was the biggest circle I've ever fully captured. The space felt very sacred. I moved about the room very lightly and softly blended into the wall the majority of the time. I waited until everyone's eyes were closed in meditation to stand on a chair and snap this moment to avoid any distracting sounds or movements.

I have to be honest, shooting a bunch of circle shaped objects can be difficult. The trick is to get creative and create a composition that allows the circles to take on different shapes. By shooting only parts of the object and approaching it from a side angle made for a more visually interesting image. Experimenting with the depth of field (shallow focus) really lent to the mood in this image.
